UPMC Presbyterian Neurovascular ICU

The 20-bed Neurovascular ICU provides care for patients who are critically ill with neurological problems and patients requiring post-operative neurosurgical care. Critical care medicine faculty and fellows work collaboratively with their colleagues in the departments of Neurosurgery and Neurology in the largest neurocritical care program in western Pennsylvania. UPMC is designated as a Comprehensive Stroke Center; the core of these critical care services is located in the Neurovascular ICU.

The Neurovascular ICU specializes in patients with:

  • Subarachnoid and intracranial hemorrhage
  • Acute ischemic stroke
  • Status epilepticus
  • Brain tumors
  • CNS infections and autoimmune conditions
  • Neuromuscular disorders
