The 20-bed Medical-Neuro ICU provides advanced care for critically ill patients with medical diseases such as respiratory failure, sepsis and shock as well as neurological disorders including stroke, subarachnoid hemorrhage, spinal injuries, and neurosurgical disease. The Medical-Neuro ICU team works in collaboration with colleagues in the departments of Medicine, Neurosurgery, and Neurology. UPMC Mercy Hospital is certified as a Comprehensive Stroke Center as designated by the Joint Commission and the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association.
The Mercy Medical-Neuro ICU specializes in patients with:
- Acute respiratory failure
- Shock
- Sepsis
- Stroke and seizure
- Brain and spinal cord surgery
