Between 30 to 70% of patients with moderate to severe injuries receive care at non-trauma hospitals, despite evidence that they benefit from treatment at specialty centers. Under-triage persists in part because of physician non-adherence to triage guidelines. The goal of this project is to help physicians make better time-pressured trauma triage decisions by using basic behavioral science methodology to study and to modify physician cognitive processes.
