Following a successful inaugural event, the Second Annual Mitchell P Fink Critical Care Scholar Day was held on April 23rd, at the University Club. The guest speaker this year was Dr. Joseph Parrillo, Chairman of the Heart and Vascular Hospital, Hackensack University Medical Center.
The day began with presentations by several leaders in the Department, highlighting the activities in their groups and a State of the Department address by Dr. Derek Angus. This was followed by a provocative presentation by Dr. Joseph Parrillo, "Myocardial Depression in Septic Shock: Three Decades Defining Mechanisms and Management".
The afternoon session began with presentations of scholarly work by fellows. Eleven fellows were selected to give moderated poster presentations and three fellows were selected to give oral presentations, covering both adult and pediatric research, education, and administration. Discussion of these presentations was facilitated by Dr. Michael Pinsky, with our visiting professor, Dr. Parrillo, frequently adding comments. The invited guests and audience members continued their discussions during a hosted Happy Hour in the College Room.
