Camp INSPIRE will be held on July 21-26, 2013 at The Woodlands Foundation in Wexford. This is an overnight camp that is specifically designed for children who require some form of ventilatory support such as home ventilators, BiPAP, CPAP, etc. Most of the campers will have tracheostomies as well. The camp staff will be comprised of respiratory therapists, nurses, physicians, and other professionals from Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC as well as Summer Program Staff from The Woodlands.
In our inaugural year, we will host 12 children ranging in age from 8-14 years. In addition to having a memorable week-long adventure packed with joy, this experience will provide these campers the chance to interact with other children with similar situations. Campers will participate in various activities including crafts, nature, swimming, campfire sing-a-longs, games, music, archery, golf, and talent shows just to name a few. Camp INSPIRE will also provide an opportunity for CHP staff to interact with the patients that they treat on a daily basis in a setting other than a hospital.
Our partner, The Woodlands, is a non-profit human service organization dedicated to serving children and adults with disabilities and chronic illness and is designed to strengthen and support individuals in five main areas: socialization, recreation, environment, culture, and spirituality. Specialty camps are held year-round at their beautiful, 32 acre, fully accessible campus and is a perfect setting for our specially designed Camp INSPIRE.
