Due to the growth and success of the pediatric critical care program, a number of leadership appointments have been made to ensure a strong leadership team directing and planning for the Division’s future. Robert Clark, MD, has been appointed to Vice Chair for Pediatric Critical Care in the Department of Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Clark has been Chief of the Division of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine since 2009, and during that time the Division has seen impressive growth in faculty, federal grant funding, and ICU service lines within Lawrenceville’s Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC as well as at off campus sites. As Vice Chair, Dr. Clark will focus on further expanding Children’s ICU services and integrating ICU-IT platforms for delivering high-performing and high-value pediatric critical care locally, nationally, and abroad.
Hülya Bayır, MD, has been appointed to Academic Chief of the Division of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Bayır is a world-renowned scientist with impressive NIH funding and recent publications in Cell, Nature Chemical Biology, and the Journal of Clinical Investigation, and she tops that off by being a first-rate clinician. She is a founding member of the Pediatric Neurocritical Care Service and is Co-Director of the Pediatric Critical Renal Research Team. Recently, Dr. Bayır was named Director of the Children’s Neuroscience Institute at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.
Rajesh Aneja, MD, has been appointed to Clinical Chief of the Division of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Aneja is also an internationally-recognized clinician-scientist and thought leader, having served on the Pediatric Section Steering Committee and as Pediatric Section Chair of the Congress Planning Committee for the Society of Critical Care Medicine, and Chair of the Rules Committee for the Shock Society. Dr. Aneja has been Medical Director of our PICU since 2009.
On August 1, 2018, Justin Yeh, MD, was appointed as the new chief of the Division of Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Medicine and the co-director of the Heart Center at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC. He will be responsible for the Pediatric Cardiac ICU at Children’s in Pittsburgh as well as at St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital in Tampa.
Dr. Yeh moved to Pittsburgh from the University of California San Diego, where he was the medical director of the Acute Cardiac Unit at Rady Children’s Hospital and a clinical associate professor in the Division of Pediatric Cardiology. Prior to UC San Diego, he spent five years at the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford, working in the cardiac intensive care unit and the heart failure/transplant service. Dr. Yeh is interested in research relating to the use of ventricular assist devices to support children with advanced heart failure.
