Hulya Bayir Co-authors Companion Papers in Nature Chemical Biology

These papers, report novel regulation of “ferroptosis”—iron-dependent lipid peroxidase-mediated cell death—by oxidized arachidonic and adrenic phosphatidylethanolamines (http://www.nature.com/nchembio/journal/v13/n1/pdf/nchembio.2238.pdf) and acyl-CoA synthetase long-chain family member 4 (http://www.nature.com/nchembio/journal/v13/n1/pdf/nchembio.2239.pdf). These findings represent new targets for drug discovery and therapeutic approaches for ferroptosis-related disease, such as cancer, ischemia-reperfusion injury, and neurodegenerative diseases, and places the “Iron City” firmly in the center of the ferroptosis map.
