These papers, report novel regulation of “ferroptosis”—iron-dependent lipid peroxidase-mediated cell death—by oxidized arachidonic and adrenic phosphatidylethanolamines ( and acyl-CoA synthetase long-chain family member 4 ( These findings represent new targets for drug discovery and therapeutic approaches for ferroptosis-related disease, such as cancer, ischemia-reperfusion injury, and neurodegenerative diseases, and places the “Iron City” firmly in the center of the ferroptosis map.
