Research Associate Internship Program

The MACRO Research Associate program was developed and implemented in 2009 in response to an increased need for study coverage. The program has grown since then, with the internship established in 2015.
  • Determine patient eligibility for participation in a wide array of studies
  • Coordinate collection and directly handle and process biological specimens, including blood, urine, and tissue samples
  • Perform several techniques and assays to process biological samples
  • Basic data collection and medical record abstraction
  • Assist study coordinators with the informed consent process
  • Paid (base rate of $8/hr.)
  • Interactions with physicians and patients in a clinical setting
  • First-hand exposure in the emergency department, operating room, and intensive care units
  • Technical lab skill development
  • Development of critical thinking and decision-making skills
  • Increased knowledge of medical terminology
  • Shadowing opportunities
  • Minimum 9-month commitment including a 3-month intensive training program
  • Availability to work 12-20 hours a week
  • Attendance at 1 intern meeting per month
  • Attendance at 6 faculty lectures per year
  • Advanced understanding of clinical research ethics and standards under university and national regulations
  • Demonstrate exemplary quality of work and professionalism in the workplace
