On April 26-27, 2016, we will be celebrating the 5th Annual Mitchell P. Fink Scholar Day. The goal of Fink Scholar Day is to showcase scholarly work being done by our trainees, including research, educational development, and quality improvement projects.
Each year we invite a national leader in critical care who is known for his or her mentoring of trainees. This year our invited guest is Niranjan (Tex) Kissoon, MD, FRCPC, CPE, FAAP, FCCM, FACPE. Dr. Kissoon is an internationally recognized leader in the fields of pediatric critical care, sepsis, and global health. He has contributed to over 300 peer reviewed publications, authored over 70 book chapters, and he sits on the editorial boards of 10 journals. Dr. Kissoon was awarded a Distinguished Career Award by the American Academy of Pediatrics in 2013, and the prestigious Society of Critical Care Medicine’s (SCCM) Master of Critical Care Medicine award in 2015. His work in improving the ability to provide timely service to critically ill children in resource-limited areas includes a recent trial of a predictive model of the need for hospitalization in children under five in Bangladesh (PLoS One, 2015 Nov 18).
Dr. Kissoon will be the keynote speaker for Fink Scholar Day, which will be held all day on April 26, 2016, in the University Club, Ballroom B. He will also deliver Grand Rounds the following day, April 27, held in Scaife 1105AB.
