The CCM Online Curriculum is a robust collection of web-based resources for teaching and learning. The goal is to make much of the curriculum, including evaluations, available through mobile devices. Fellows have access to a complete set of lectures, online evaluations, and evidence based medicine databases using mobile devices such as iPads and smartphones. As new technologies emerge as platforms for educational activities, they will be incorporated into the educational mission. The online curriculum is created with resources found within the Grenvik Education Center.
Each component of the Adult CCM curriculum has an online component:
1. Core Lectures and Workshops
Daily sessions in 615 Scaife Hall are converted to video podcasts, which include grand rounds, research conferences and the core didactic curriculum. Access to podcasts is restricted to UPMC employees.
2. Online Evaluations
To gauge learning, exams based on the core lecture series are required of all CCM fellows. In addition, each lecture is evaluated by the fellows and the results used to improve lectures.
3. Wiser Human Simulation Center Training Sessions
Throughout the year, CCM fellows receive simulation training in the Wiser Center. Training materials must be completed online before entering the sessions.
4. Critical Care Medicine Journal Club
Each fellow presents a journal article intended to provide sufficient evidence to change medical practice. Recorded presentations provide Summaries of the presentations are published online.
5. Evidence Based Medicine Core Articles
More than 100 articles central to the practice of Critical Care Medicine are compiled in the Evidence Based Medicine Database. Each fellow is examined on a set of 10 articles.
